I don't know who you think you are but before the night is through, I wanna do bad things with you.
The hit HBO series tells the story of Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin) a telepathic waitress at a bar in the fictional town of Bon Temps who has a vampire fetish. Well not entirely. But she does fall in love with one, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and later on, has sex dreams about another (Eric Northman, potrayed by Alaxander Skarsgard).
And while those are merely the superficial contours of this amazing show. Racism, sexism, substance abuse, and redemption are just some of the themes True Blood seamlessly explores while layering the series' characters which initially seem like silly Hill-Billies with that Southern twang.
True Blood airs in the summer seasons of HBO. Two seasons have already aired, and the third begins on June 13, 2010. A fourth season has also been ordered. Seasons are usually 12-13 episodes.
Now that that's done, I'd like to discuss the past seasons.
I warn you against reading things in the spoiler tags if you haven't watched the show and intend to as it will ruin the entire thrill of watching the show.
Season One really had a shitload of mystery, and I loved it. The plot was really tight and by the third episode, I felt like I had known most of the main characters for ages!
Season Two wasn't as tight as the first season, but they still managed to stage a good show, great even, compared to the other crap they air these days on TV.
The whole concept of Maryann Forester/Maenads intrigued me and had me instantly hitched. Did I mention in the earlier season's "review" that the show's take on different supe mythology makes it all the more worth the watch? No? Well it does. I'm talking about the scene where Daphne tells Sam what Maryann really is and how she's connected to Dionysus, aka "the Horned God" (which in BT-mentality translates to "Satan"; nice parallel there). And then there are those scenes she hunts rabbits/animals and brings them home after a night of raving that brings us back to the real-world myths about maenads.
Surprisingly the orgy scenes didn't bother me... much. But the heart that she fed Eggs and Tara was disgusting.
Sookie meets another telepath. And yay, someone she can finally silently communicate with both ways. That sure did come in handy when she was kidnapped and almost raped.
Lorena. I didn't like her much. And I have nothing more to say.
The Reverend. Three words: What. A. C*nt.
Remember how I said I'd like beating Tara's mom up? Yeah, this guy trumps that. I hate him. I really do, and I was so glad when he was beaten. His wife's a whore too, but I thought she'd be better than him after she was with Jason. Loved that quote of his though:
"I've already been to Heaven. I was inside your wife." HAHA.
Then the whole Eric/Godric thing. I really, really loved Godric's character. So deep and meaningful, and that scene where he gives up himself to the rising sun was simply marvellous, where he finds "God" in Sookie Stackhouse. Effects were cool too.
Eric's bloodties with Sookie and Lafayette thicken the plot. His character's real dark fun, from when he finds a reason to get his "haircut" from Pam to the part where he makes Sookie drink his blood. Sure, he has a softer side as seen before Godric is about to die, but eh. AND he can fly! Supervamp FTW!
The finale was well devised, and the Queen seems like a dangerously fun character to look into.
Jessica, I love. I really do. Everything about her. Even the episode where she made Sookie take her back home, and the family dynamic between her, Bill and Sookie. I also enjoyed her relationship with Hoyt, but seems like she's heading down a whorish path now. Will be interesting to see what happens. She's a big girl.
And Sam! How could I forget about Sam. He played a pivotal part this season, and in the finale. I think it's nice that he still has a thing for Sookie, even though his love is now turning platonic. Daphne's betrayal came as a shock to me initially, I thought he'd have finally found someone. What Maryann did to him was quite twisted, but she's Lucifer's bitch, so can't really blame her. I wonder what his real family will be like.
And I already know who captured Bill (thanks to Wikipedia), provided they're staying true to the books. Which I am iffy about, as Lafayette is the body they find in the Merlotte's parking area around the end of the first book/beginning of the second book, not the old doctor-lady.
And the opening. When you look into the symbolism and all, it's quite nice, and the tune's quite catchy. But after three to four episodes, I fast-forward it.
All in all a good show. Not for the weak-hearted, narrow-minded, elderly, children, pregnant women, and fetuses.
And has anyone watched the new minisodes? I shall discuss them at a later time. This is one long first post.

I initially thought the murderer was Ryan, then Sam but it turned out to be Rene, Arlene's boyfriend in the end. And that's what I loved about it, it was so unexpected. It makes you think that the story works on a more global/universal level in regard to characters instead of just the confines of the primary/secondary characters.
And the V, and its use was something I really enjoyed. I honestly was hoping that the stuff really exists so that I could get high on it. Lol. And Jason's girlfriend. It's a pity she died. I liked her.
Tara's and Sam's characters are well enjoyed. I sympathise with the former's backstory with her alcoholic mother (who btw, I'd whack the crud out of had she been real) and Sam... well Sam's a different story I shall not share atm.
Bill was really interesting in this season. The fact that he had to abandon his family after becoming a vamp was heartbreaking, as was him turning Jessica too. I felt so bad for her in the beginning, but when she turned into a bitch upon waking, I instantly fell in love with her. I also liked the whole Sookie-Bill-Jessica dynamic. Was that in this season or the next? I forget.
Speaking of Bill turning Jessica, the consequences of their were well-received, as was "Glamoring". Hypnotism is such an awesome power. And the way in which they "die" after being staked is quite novel and bloody. I loved it.
Hmm, and what else? Lafayette scares me, but that's just a personal thing. His character isn't unwelcomed though. And Jason is a dumbass. Period.

That's off the ST thread (found here) I started a few months ago.
As mentioned, True Blood is a summer show, and the third season airs on June 13, 2010. We have just a few members discussing this show as of now on ST, so I am not sure if a board will be opened for this or not.
I'm encouraging you guys to join the discussion.
