3.10 - I Smell a Rat [/u] Bill reveals to Sookie that she is part fairy. Sam has flashbacks to 2003, when he was a jewel thief and killed two people. Arlene asks Holly for help with her pregnancy after telling Terry that Rene is the baby's father. Holly reveals she is a Wiccan. Hoyt breaks up with Summer. Hoyt is attacked by Tommy in dog form, but Jessica saves him. Eric makes a will, leaving everything to Pam. Lafayette heals Calvin's injuries with V. Jesús and Lafayette do V together and, in their drug-induced state, see Jesús' grandfather, a sorcerer who dabbled in black magic. Jason confesses to Sookie and Tara that he killed Eggs. Jason learns that Crystal is a were-panther. Sookie goes to see Eric, who, after kissing her, locks her up in Fangtasia's dungeon. Russell picks up a male prostitute and stakes him. [/center] We seemed to have been slacking for the past few weeks with discussing episodes, but hopefully we can get some nice discussion going as we reach the finale. So after the last couple of really gripping, really exciting episodes this one did feel a bit slower but I think it was a case of slowing down before the final two episodes rather than anything else. I loved Sookie's reaction to Bill telling her that she's part fairy, "How f***ing lame!" that was probably the reaction of a lot of people as well since it is a slightly silly idea, but True Blood does silly ever so well What I didn't like, and haven't been liking since last week was Sam's sudden transformation into Mr. Violence. Where did that come from? I haven't enjoyed Sam's character a lot this season, he's been pretty dull and they seem to be overusing him and there just isn't enough for him to do as a character, so if I had one major complaint about this episode it would be Sam. I hope this storyline isn't the start of his season four story because I already can't wait for it to conclude. And while I get the fact that he comes from a very dark and troubled past, the fact that all of this just came out of nowhere is what is bugging me. The Bill/Eric stuff was great as usual. I don't trust either of them, but I really wish Sookie and Eric would get together already! I know if it's because I read the books as well and I'm used to Bill and Sookie not being together (which I can't imagine happening on the show) but Bill is becoming more and more untrustworthy by the episode and while Eric is also untrustworthy at least he's upfront about it. So I'm unsure of where they'll take the Bill/Sookie/Eric triangle but I hope at least Sookie eventually gives Bill what for because she has a habit of just falling back into his arms.

We seemed to have been slacking for the past few weeks with discussing episodes, but hopefully we can get some nice discussion going as we reach the finale. First off, thank you for making this thread and getting me off my lazy ass to discuss this. PJ and I usually have a go at it every Monday on MSN because no one else here seemed to be interested. To be honest, I felt it was quite fast-paced, until right before the ending scenes. I think Jesus and Lafayette's V-trip had more to do with that, though, along with some other stuff. Lafayette and Jesus are FINALLY interesting. It's more than gay-cuddling and anti-fag bashing. I loved the way their voices were changing on the trip, and how they showed their ancestory. I wonder if Jesus really does like Lafayette, or if he's just pretending to do so to be protected from his grandfather. And also, I think Ruby Jane might be a witch, but she doesn't know it yet... You know, I hated how they kept dragging it for so many episodes, seasons even, when I knew the answer, and I was wondering how they'd top it off. And there we go "How fucking lame"! Haha. I just want Beel and Sukkai to be over with already. Her relationship with Eric is so much more interesting. And Beel is interesting, only when he's not around her. I loved the scene when the biggots set a scarecrow on fire outside his house, and he went to confront Jessica. Speaking of, they've finally decided how to potray her hotness in that waitress outfit of hers, and she was looking good in that scene of her in the nightdress too. And strangely when she was feeding Hoyt, as well as when she told Arlene what a skinny whore she was. Good job, VILF, good job. I'm glad they're together again though. And I loved all of the Tommy bashing in this episode. Hoyt punching him in the face, Jesska throwing him into the woods. Haha. I used to enjoy his character in the beginning, but now he's just an annoying piece of shit. I'm actually glad that Sam grew some balls. He was always being pushed around, taken advantage of, and nothing, nothing was done about it. I'll admit, the backstory was a bit boring, and made him seem dumb as compared to what he's usually potrayed as. There were a few awkward moments in the bar this time round. Holly declaring she was a Wiccan didn't really come off as naturally, the same for Arlene's reaction to said revelation. I would expect her to go all Christian and "Weetch!!" on her ass, and ask her to stay away from her, but she goes back to her for help, even after Terry accepts her. I really loathe that redhead of a tramp. Yeah, or bouncing right onto his crotch. Slut. Anyway, if you've watched the True Blood SDCC videos, Alan Ball mentions that in his mind, Beel and Sukkai are soulmates. I was kinda surprised, because a brilliant mind like that shat that thought. Oh well. Other stuff I loved in this episode: - Jason and Tara finally coming clean to each other. - Pam/Eric stuff. Loved the will scene, as well as the parallels Pam drew between her relationship with Eric and his with Godric. - Sookie/Eric scenes. - The Reverend being back! (Go to hbo.com/true-blood to see the post-mortem scene that's hilarious!) He usually annoys me, but this time it was bearable. Things I didn't like: - Russell/Male-hooker scenes. It was just disturbing, and not amusing or interesting like the final scene in the last episode. - The panther used for Crystal's transformation, the effects as well. I do love the fact that she's a werepanther, but I just didn't like the way the VFX department handled it. It was a very poor shot. - The ending. I was a bit disappointed. After last week's, it was a bummer. I was hoping she'd light-blast him as she reached out, but nothing happened. Weak.

It really is. Even in the books is way more interesting. Her relationship with Bill seems very fake almost as if Sookie has settled for him because he was the first person she met who she couldn't hear the thoughts of. With Eric and Sookie there seems to be a lot more passion, weather that's all there is remains to be seen but it's definitely and area which needs to be explored. Again I agree. Bill is a lot darker than Eric as a character even though Eric is often painted as the villianous one of the pair but Bill has a mean streak which he keeps well hidden but it's there and he's so damned secretive about everything! But him being with Jessica is an example of how he can be a better character, even during that scene with Jason he was far more interesting than when he's moping around with Sookie. I've never really taken to him but I think it's because apart from the dog fighting stuff he has been more of a catalyst for Sam's story than anything else so we haven't got to see much more of him other than when he's causing trouble for Sam. It's rare in TB, but he's way underdeveloped as a character. I can see him becoming something of a bad guy though if he remains on the show. I was actually expecting her to come out as a wiccan to Arlene first so I was surprised at how that happened. That said I really like Holly and if they follow Book 4 then we should be seeing more of her. The actress is a bit creepy though, she's not how I imagined the character looking like at all, but at the same time she has that witchy sort of look about her. I felt really bad for both of them this week, I haven't always liked Jason but since late last season he has been growing a lot more and he's one of my favourites now and I've always liked Tara although it is easy sometimes not to. But I wish they'd give her a break, considering that the whole entire show has so far been set over about two months I don't know how she's still sane! I'm putting that down to her inexperience of using her power rather than the writers just using it when it's needed I don't know if that's the case but let's just pretend it is But seriously, I was expecting her to zap Eric but I guess he'll either drain her like Bill did in order to kill Russell or use her as bait. Judging from the trailer it's the former but it's just a trailer after all.

I thought that it was fast paced the first half, but slowed down the second half. Nontheless, one of my favorites, probably number 5 out of top 5. Lafayette has always been on of my favorites, but I'm not to fond of Jesus. I mean I always thought he was just a love interest and nothing more. But he may be linked to Lala and his "power"? But yes, I loved the way the V-Trip was shot. The camera, the sort of jittery moving, the lighting and their ancestors. As for Ruby Jane being a witch, I don't think she knows either. If anything, she believes more in Lafayette more than herself. I did believe her when she said that he has power some episodes before. When Bill said, "I know what you are." and they just ended the scene, I literally choked the air's fat neck, screaming. I knew she was a fairy, via wiki, but I wanted to know how the show would pursue it. And her reaction was funny. I know she can't trust Bill, but I want them together anyways. I like the idea of Bill protecting her from Russell and any other baddies that come their way. It's matter of who you trust more. I'll admit, I'm still not over him leaving Tara for dead at that mansion, but Bill's little monologue on his love for Sookie pretty much had me. I'm a sucker for love, I'm sorry. And speaking of protecting Sookie, Jason did a pretty bad job of it. But I think he's one of my new faves. I always thought he was just some jackass always trying to get some nookie, c**k blocks guys in their cars, and always has his way, and thought his constant pursuit for Crystal [meth] was just annoying. But I actually see more of his...good side. I wouldn't mind seeing him with Tara, though I'm not sure what happens in the books, and I'm not even sure if Tara would even want him. Tara. Loves me some Tara (I have some eggs for you to eat ). I'm seeing so much more of her badassness every now and then. Sometimes, she's a victim, and sometimes she's a survivor. But I'm curious to see how she goes through her threat the that police guy (not that important to me to remember his name). I couldn't agree more. If anything, I think it's Tommy's constant douche attitude. I see it as him taking advantage of Sam and calling him out all the time. At first, I really did feel sorry for him, I really did. I was only seeing the bad in Joe Lee and Melinda. But now that their out the picture, Tommy just needs to get his face pummeled in. His backstory was indeed boring. But I honestly wouldn't think Sam would shoot anyone, speaking as someone who just started the show season 3. It doesn't seem like him. I thought that it was all right. Maybe she had thought it was as natural as saying that someone's Christian. And Holly has been more than a good friend to Arlene what with the baby drama. So I don't think anything should change with them, though they might. But I could imagine Arlene screaming "witch" like that. Quite frankly, I just lost interest in the rest. Russell was boring as hell in this one. I like Jessica in any other scene. But whenever she's with Hoyt, she's just...boring. I mean yeah, the dog scene I loved, but she's just covering her fangs and saying, "I don't deserve him". He WANTS you. BE with him. And my interest with Crystal is somewhat fading. hope next week can help spark that back up.

Yes, but this is Bon Temps we're talking about, somewhere down south that has a crapload of rednecks. "Wiccan" to those narrow-minded people would mean "witch", and there's a lot of stigmata that goes with that. Perhaps she's just shitting herself about fangers too much to give a damn. You're shitting me, right? Have you watched Season 2 at all? They were the heart of the show. I did hate it when she was all covering her fangs and crying, but that was just for an episode or two. I liked the discussion they had last week, as well as this, and it wasn't like last week's crying wasn't unnecessary. Women: will be emotional, undead or alive.

I saw chunks of the season finale, but none with Hoyt and Jessica. So I never really saw them be the heart of the show. and in the season premiere, she broke up with him. i'm hoping I can see their relationship the last 2? episodes in the season.
And speaking of which, this is something I'm not sure of: vampires bleed when the sun is out? I saw this with the Queen some episodes ago and Eric last week I think (he was sitting at his desk and had a rag with blood). so When the sun is out in general, they bleed from the nose and ears? Or was it something I missed the last two seasons?

You should watch the earlier seasons when you have time, they're great! Yes. If they're awake during the day, they get tired and weak, and they bleed. They need their sleep. If they go into the sun, they start frying. The older they are, the faster they fry.

I really have loads to say about this episode, but I'm now using my iPhone to write this.. On 3G.
I'm glad that they played the word "fairy" down a bit., and started using fae. Sookie's reaction was simply priceless. I knew that they'd find some way to spice things up a bit.
Russell's man-whore was Naveed from 90210, I don't think I'll be able to look at him the same way anymore. Those scenes, although somewhat necessary, were as creepy as hell. But eh, they add to russell's craziness.
"I will mouuuurrnn you, Tara" I miss that mofo so much. His psycotic personality was just irreplaceable! I did like Jason's reaction to killing him though, and the confession that came after. I doubt Tara will blame Jason so much, as she loves him, but I have a feeling she's going to blackmail Andy. Andy is slowly getting into my good books, I'm really liking him now. Whereas in seasons 1 and 2, he was just a tool, put there to stir things up between the other characters. I have a feeling things are gonna get good with him.
The lafaesus scenes were great, but sorta tacky. I know V makes everything shiny, but I didn't like how it was portrayed. The history behind the visions were interesting though. I doubt Jesus is using Lafayette, although now that we've seen his past, I'm beginning to suspect that there's something Off with this character.. Maybe his name is somewhat ironic.. Like he's a devil-worshipper or something similar.
Sookie/Eric, not now. It's not their time. They may be interesting, but I think that adds to their greatness.
Excuse the spelling mistakes, and lack of elaboration.
