Okay, I like this show. I hated it with a vengeance at first, and I just considered it a pile of teen-angsty poop but now it's growing on me. A friend began blabbing on about the finale, and so I decided to watch it and I was pleasantly surprised.
I've only seen a few random episodes (whilst searching for Ian clips) and so I never really got into the plot. But now that I have the time, I'm going to watch the entire series. It's really dark at times and I loved (yes, loved) when Bonnie and her Grams opened Catherine's tomb and she died shortly after. One of the best scenes on television.
This show, however, isn't surviving because of the dark plot and the kick-ass witches. Oh no. This show is surviving because of the unrealistic relationship between Stefan and Elena, and occasionally Damon.
General thoughts on the show?

I really liked it at first, when I got back to uni I sort of lost track but I'm hoping to catch-up before season two but it definitely gets better with each episode, and I was amazed at how they managed to have enough story to tell if that makes sense. With a lot of shows it feels like the story is being stretched out to fill 22 episodes when it could have been done in 10 but VD manages to avoid that and actually has really great plotting which a) is surprising considering I can see how a casual on-looker would think the show is lame and b) considering its a teen angsty kind of show you wouldn't expect the mythology/supernatural side to get as much attention and detail as the romance/drama side.
