3.02 - Beautifully Broken
Original Air Date: June 20 20101
Written By: Raelle Tucker Directed By: Scott Winant
Sam Merlotte gets to know his shifter birth family in Arkansas. Bill is an unwilling guest at the home of the King of Mississippi. Jessica seeks advice on the disposal of bodies from Pam. Lafayette and Tara visit Lafayette's mother in a mental institution. Eric arrives at Sookie's home to protect her from werewolves.
----------------------- Great episode. It ramped everything up from last week, and although the groundwork is still being set, there was a lot going on and already this season is shaping up to be a corker. One thing, and this is the only thing I didn't like, was how un-scary and unexciting the Wolves were. I was hoping they'd be a really threat towards Bill, but no as soon as we begin we see he's managed to take care of them pretty well all on his own. I'm hoping that once we get some Wolves that aren't working for the King, they'll be a lot harder to kill and be a lot more threatening. But other than that, no complaints. It was funny, the dinner scene with the King and Bill was classic True Blood and after Sookie becoming slightly annoying (and a bit stupid) towards the end of last season, she really is on the up. I hope to see more of her like this. And her impression of Bill was the hilight of the episode Last week I wasn't keen on Sam's storyline, I thought it was going be slightly dull and filler, but I liked seeing his trashy birth parents and getting a bit of background information on them. They are going to be a piece of work mind you, especially that Tommy. Almost getting Sam killed.

I found it boring, to be honest. There wasn't much momentum, other than the Bill/King scenes in the beginning, and that was probably because of the music. I cringed when Sookie cried when Jason mentioned Bill. Seriously, Anna Paquin, that was almost like Kaley Cuoco's Billie weep in the Charmed finale.
Jessica's story was also sort of bland, I expected more to come out of the conversation she had with Pam. I wonder where the body went though.
I do like the new vamp, and I think either him or Bill was the traitor in Operation Werewolf. Oh, speaking of vamps, Talbot: annoys the shit out of me. It's his character on the whole. And does he know his partner wants to marry Sophie-Anne in order to usurp her queendom? It's the marrying part that I wonder why he's not worried about. And good luck to the King with that, seeing as both him and her play for the other team.
I think I know why Bill had all of those pictures of Sookie. I thought they would go down a different path on the show, but oh well.
And who else started clapping when Bill set Lorena on fire? Burn bitch, burn!
Jason's scenes were funny again, and yay! Crystal. Also, Sam's family was sorta different from what I expected them to be, and I don't believe that Joe Lee is his real father, nor do I believe he's not a shifter, or the kind accepting man he appears to be. I enjoyed the sibling rivalry between Tommy and Sam, it was kinda funny watching dogs running through the woods and onto the highway to get the other hit. Oh, btw, has Sam ever shifted from one form to another without reverting to human first?
As for Eric and Sookie, I don't think the scenes had that strong an effect on me, especially the emotional ones. I think Anna was really low on her acting in this one. Also, that final scene, did anyone think it was a bad cut when they switched to Sookie firing the gun?
I liked the actress they chose to play Lafayette's mom. She bore a striking resemblence to Tara's mother, and delivered the lines similarly. And also "Jesus", haha.
I think this episode was directed badly.
And yeah, I did love Sookie's impression of Bill haha. I love it when any of them say her name like he does.

Great episode. It ramped everything up from last week, and although the groundwork is still being set, there was a lot going on and already this season is shaping up to be a corker. I only enjoyed it because I know it's building up to something big. Tara is going to try and kill herself again, I know that much. And I loved the way she interacted with that Vampire, he seemed really cool and relaxed, but I feel he wants to get close to Tara in order to get close to Sookie, and Bill. Bill and the King were interesting but got boring towards the end. I liked all the Blood-dishes (Except that weird one with rose petals) and I liked the idea of a King vs. Queen showdown, even if I don't completely understand how Vampire politics work. If anyone wants to explain that, then please do. Anna Paquin was awful in this episode. Her acting was just so off. The crying scene was bad and she seemed really rigid. Maybe she can't handle the darker stuff, like crying scenes and moping. But I am an Eric/Sookie fan so I enjoyed their scenes together. It wasn't the most gripping cliffhanger, seeing as how we had a similar one last week. I too was hoping for more in that conversation. But who knows, maybe it was Pam who disposed of the body or maybe it was that Vampire who broke into the house. I do however wonder what Jessica would have done with that chainsaw, cut the body up and burn the pieces? That'd have been very.. interesting to watch. As for Sam, I wonder what he'll do now that his brother just tried to kill him.
