Ruby [/u] Character played by: Katie Cassidy and Genevieve Cortese Much is unknown about the demon Ruby. She was first seen in the Season 3 premiere 'The Magnificent Seven', where she saved Sam from multiple demons by killing them with her mysterious knife. Since then she had helped the Winchesters, until she was sent to hell in the Season 3 finale. When Season 4 came rolling around, Ruby was found to have escaped hell, and gained a new meat suit. When Dean was sent to hell, she stuck around and helped Sam develop his demonic powers, manipulating him into thinking that he was really helping the world with his bad situation, because he was saving the host bodies in which the demons were possessing.[/center] Much character discussion has taken place in the Season 4 premiere thread, and it was decided that perhaps a thread should be created for the Demon-Bitch that we all love. Peronally, I love Ruby. Season 3, while not the greatest in most aspects, did right in introducing the kick-ass demon with awesome knife skills. Ha. As heard/read in the 'Lazarus Rising' thread, I have some theories as to how Ruby obtained the knife, and if she created it herself. Personally, I think that Ruby created the knife when she was a witch. No one knows what happened to the original 13 bullets from the colt. Perhaps one of them was stolen by Ruby, melted down, and turned into the blade of her knife, giving her a chance to kill demons if and when they came after her. As said in the other thread also, that was just a ramble of mine, but very possible in my eyes. Also, the metal from one bullet couldn't make an entire blade, so maybe she blended it with other metals to make the blade longer, but in turn diluted the power of the bullet, which is why it didn't kill the more powerful demons, like Alistair. Again, just a ramble. Any thoughts on Ruby and her Knife?

I remember reading this really interesting fic somewhere (I think it was livejournal, not sure. It was called something like I'd like some fries with that) but it reminded me of something. Ruby escaped from hell with all those other crazies, meaning that she was just a mass of gas for a period of time. Can those smoky black clouds transport blades? No. I don't think they can. They use the things their meat suits provide.
And yes, humans are tortured in hell, implying that they do use a series of ehm.. instruments so it is possible that the Knife was created in hell. The other option is that it was handed down until reaching Ruby and she hid it before she went to hell. Which really seems kinda dull to me. :/
Oh, and just by looking at the photos, you can tell Ruby #1 is so much more bad-ass than Genieve's Ruby ever was.

Why use a knife that kills demons on Humans? I'm saying that before she was a demon, when she was a human witch, she made the knife. Perhaps when she was trapped in hell, she had a witchy friend hold it for her? Or she hid it? I don't know, but she could have made it, IMO.
And yes, Katie was awesome. Genevieve did have her moments, especially in the finale, but Katie takes the cake for me any day.

Why use a knife that kills demons on Humans? I'm saying that before she was a demon, when she was a human witch, she made the knife. What I meant was, they do have weapons in Hell meaning that it could have been created there. I really wish that they'd give an explanation in season 6, at first all the characters were like "I've never seen a blade that can kill demons" and I thought they were bound to give an explanation at some point but it's been left a mystery for so long that I think it's just beome one of those things that we just need to accept without an explanation.

I mean, I originally thought that she came and found it later. After learning that she was working for Lilith after all, it's possible that Lilith could've known its location and handed it off to her, knowing that she was going to have to defend herself for being a traitor. I mean, I've read several stories and thought of my own things but I want more than just Ruby discovering an enchanted blade or whatever. I want some background, some small bit that can hint at something else, at least.
I love the idea of Ruby being in possession of the blade during her time as a witch so she could try and protect herself from demons and hellhounds (?), but the world may never know... unless they bring back one of the actresses for an episode... which we know isn't going to happen, so dream on, Ruby-Fans and thank your God, Ruby-Haters.
"Does anyone have a breath mint? Some guts splattered in my mouth when I was killing my way in here." It would've been awesome to see her actually fight in "Jus in Bello". She looked like she had one hell of a fight by the time she reached the boys.

I remember that being in your signature for ages, and I smiled each time. And then the whole "I'm sorry, I must have blood in my ears.I thought I just heard you say that you were stupid enough to let the Colt get grabbed out of your thick, clumsy, idiotic hands." which is equally funny.
Yes, a full history of each and every character would be ideal, but impossible. Lets remember that Ruby wasn't that popular, and as nice as it'd be to have an episode (or mini-series, or novel) dedicated to her past, I doubt it'd happen.
Wait- The novel might actually be possible if the writers think it'd be cool, but not cool enough for the series. (Or not cool enough for all those Ruby haters.)

You see, I had this in my original post, but I deleted it, as I thought it didn't make sense with the mythology of the show. I couldn't remember if her turning into a demon involved hellhounds or other demons. Clearly, I was wrong, and I should have posted it. Lol. And I agree. The thought of her finding the knife and going "I wonder if this can kill demons, lets find out!" seems...stupid.
Yeah, I'm not gona lie, I think about Ruby, her background, and random things about her during the day. I know, total loser right? Haha. If I believed I could carry it well, i'd try and write a fic about her, but I feel my sarcasm doesn't quite match up to hers, and I wouldn't do the character justice.

I mean, I'm not one hundred percent sure that Ruby could use the knife against a hellhound or how effective it would've been, but it's a fun thought. But yeah, she made a deal - sold her soul and all so hellhounds are definitely likely to have been involved. I would love to see a book of some sort, but yeah, I'm not holding my breath on it any longer. I just wish Genevieve Cortese would've done a better job earlier in the season and maybe the fandom would've liked her a little more and they could've kept her around. Or, the character at least. It would've been awesome to see Ruby vacating Cortese and flying the hell out while Lucifer rose - despite how much of a Lucifer-groupie she appeared to be and probably would've wanted to see him rise, but she couldn't do that dead. Too bad we couldn't get another Ruby actress. I was really hoping that Rachel Miner was going to be Ruby in the same way they fooled us that Castiel was going to be a demon. I'm not saying that Ruby wasn't killed in 4.22, but I'm sure they could've played with it - had Lucifer bring her back, but after "Abandon All Hope" it's apparent he doesn't care enough about demonkind to reward them. EDIT: P.S, how do you feel about changing the title from "The Demonic Ex-Witch" to "Hell-Bitch" ?

Get. Out. Of. My Mind. Seriously.
I was going to put that, but I figured Terry or someone would have a BF (Bitch Fit for anyone who hasn't seen White Chicks) about it having a curse word in the title. I'll change it now. Ha.

Yeah, no. It should be fine. It's a name they used on the show. If it's appropriate enough for prime time t.v, it's good here. We make no advertisements of being a family-friendly site.
So, what are some of your favorite Ruby episodes played by each actress?
Both Katie C. and Genevieve C. both had really strong season finale performances, for sure. Katie did an awesome job being the character she first made famous as well as taking on little-girl-in-a-grown-body Lilith. "Silly goose, you have to have something I want. Tsk tsk. You don't." and "...I sent her far, far away."
Genevieve really gave it her all in the finale, especially her swan song of a scene. It was good to hear in the commentary that her and Jared had practiced it until they felt they got it right because it really paid off. The lies finally came unfolded all the while the soft side she affectionately showed for Sam. It did really look like Ruby wanted to be by his side when Lucifer bestowed the greatest gift of all - his existence in Sam's body.
Apart from those episodes, I loved Katie-Ruby in "Jus in Bello" as well as "Malleus Maleficarum." If I had to pick one, I guess I'd go with Malleus since it involved a fight scene, the start of "shortbus" that gets abused in the fandom now, her origin scene and the talk of Hell at the end.
Gen-Ruby was damn good I felt in "I Know What You Did Last Summer". Some holes finally got filled, it was nice.
Favs?

I, personally, love Ruby in 'The Magnificent 7', 'Malleus Maleficarum', 'Jus in Bello', and 'No Rest for the Wicked'. In each of those episodes, we got to find out a little more about Ruby, See some cool fight scenes, and just see Ruby in all of her glorious bas-assness. Ha.
My actual only Genevieve favorite is 'Lucifer Rising', but only because it's one of the only episodes she had real screen-time in. The first half of the season was full of bad acting from her, but after the fall-sweeps, She got better, but we didn't see much of her, which is why My favorite from her is the finale.
Edit: I just noticed I seem kind of butt-kissy towards Lex. I don't mean to be. You've got to realize, when I get started talking about SPN and True Blood, I get a little over-excited. Ha.

When I was watching Lucifer Rising, I was not routing for Sam, I was cheering on Ruby who had already revealed that she was a bad-guy. I was thinking "Come on Ruby! Smoke out damn it! Smoke!".
My favourite Ruby episode is Malleus Malleficarum (Hammer of the witches, in English. Well actually it's Hammer of evil, but yeah, that's the general translation.) mainly because we got some background on Ruby, she actually met Dean and well the awesome fight scene. Katie really did a great job too, she nailed all the sarcasm and I loved the end where she threatened the brothers with her demonic powers. (You know, she made them go black and then said 'Get out.')
Now Katie was brilliant here. I loved, loved loved loved, Silly Goose and the way she said it. Extremely creepy.
You know when Ruby was human, was she a good witch or a bad witch? Oh and why in Gods name would she sell her soul on her deathbed?
