4.01 - Lazarus Rising [/b] Written By Eric Kripke Directed by Kim Manners Original Airdate: 9/18/08 Dean Winchester has been sent to hell, but an unknown, and powerful, entity has brought him back, leaving him with no memory of the past 4 months, and hand-shaped welts on his shoulders.[/center] What did everyone think of the episode? Personally, I thought it was a great start to a fantastic, if not the best, season of Supernatural. The introduction of angels was balls-y, but it definitely paid off. I definitely tired of nothing but demons in the season prior to this one. Misha Collins as Castiel was a great addition to the show, giving it some new life, in my opinion. This is also the first time we see someone controlling demons since season two's "All Hell Breaks Loose", and it's by none other than Sam, who's been exercising his demonic abilities because of my favorite demon-bitch Ruby, thought it would have been nice if Katie Cassidy had been the meat suit she wore instead of Genevieve Cortese.

I thought it was brilliant. I still remember feeling bad after Dean's death, but the first episode cleared everything up, in a very mysterious way. And I don't believe that the introduction to Angels was balls-y. First, they showed that white light. Then, that psychic had her eyes blown out, which added to the mystery. And then when they finally revealed Castiel, I thought it was great. How would you have done it? Then the was the big problem. Genevieve. I think everyone loved Ruby, and it was such a shame to see the actress change. I always wished Katy would walk through the door and say something like "I liked this body better." Great introduction to such a great season.

I meant balls-y in the fact that the introduction of Angels could have made the show, or broke it. It could have brought the show to new heights, like it did, or make it like the sh*thole that was season 3. I agree with everything you said, it was great. Especially the shadow-wings at the end of the episode.
I have to disagree with everyone loving Ruby. It surprises me how many fans hated her. Most SPN fans disliked both Bela and Ruby, though my hate was only for the former. I did miss Katie, but I can't change it now I guess. Maybe in season 6 they could bring back Katie as Ruby just for an episode and say something along the lines of "The knife can't kill it's creator." Or something along those lines. Then they can leave her be, or shoot her with the colt at the end of the episode. Ha.

Now that I'd be impressed with! But I disagree with season 3 being a sh!thole. It was great in so many ways, sure they introduced a few females which I guess a lot of Wincest fans weren't pleased with, but I was glad they did. It made the brothers a little more interesting. Ruby and Bela were both two extremely interesting characters, and I can't see why anyone would dislike them. Bela had that whole dark past thing going on, which led to her death; and Ruby was just awesome. And Lillith was introduced! C'mon she was the big bad for 2 seasons and she was extremely creepy! (Especially due to the fact that she was portrayed by a child. A very good actress, might I add.) What else? Oh yeah. The amazing finale, which then led to all the awesomeness in season 4. So yup, season 3 is one of my favourite seasons. (Actually, come to think about it I can't pick a favourite season. It's a tie between 3, 4 and 5.)

Ruby Talk... I'm in. First off, I doubt that she created the knife. Big time. That thing must've been passed down. Second off, Genevieve C. stepped it up, but never reached the level among fans that Katie C. earned. Third off, very very very safe to say that Ruby is damn dead. BUT I always thought that maybe they'd bring her back. I always wanted to write a little thing involving both Rubys as a manifestation. I might actually still do it, but maybe they could bring back both Katie and Genevieve (or just one) for one episode as a hallucination kind of thing.
Now, for the episode. I remember going into it not one hundred percent excited. Based on how we were left all summer, we knew that Ruby who'd I grown to love was gone (either in Hell or dead), Sam wasn't going to be using his powers any longer out of respect for Dean and Dean was going to get out of Hell and I thought it'd be by a demon or whatever.
THEN they changed it up on us.
1) Ruby was back - not necessarily better than ever, but the character returned. 2) Sam used his powers (aided by Ruby) and was keeping it secret from Dean. Go Evil-ish Sam! 3) Dean WASN'T rescued by a demon but by a freakin' angel. Go Show!
I love rewatching this episode for all the elements we discussed along with Bobby and Pamela Barnes.
Two of my favorite character introductions: 1) Ruby slashing away at three Sins in Season 3's premiere. and then this episode... 2) Castiel, "I'm an Angel of the Lord." + Shadow Wings. I repeat, Go Show!

Ahh, Lex. I've been waiting for you to post here. Ha.
By the finale, I admit, Genevieve did step it up. She just wasn't on par with Katie in my eyes. And don't forget, Ruby used to be a witch, and she could've been VERY powerful for all we know. After all, 'what we don't know about her could fill a book.' She very well could've create the knife hilt, and created the blade with the melted metal of a colt bullet. I actually think that's a pretty good idea. Ha. I'm ranting.
Lex+SPN fic=My new favorite story. Ha.

I feel like someone should open up a character thread... it seems like some Ruby discussion would take off. Just saying.

Ha. Lex. Hint=taken. I made a Ruby thread so we can stop taking up the episodic thread with our rambles about the Demon.
Anyone else agree with the three above statements that the premiere of Season 4 was pretty awesome?
